Chemo Day #5 + 9

09/26/2012:

12:00: So yep, I am still here working.  Everything test out, so I go ahead and tape everything up and secure everything.  One last thing I gotta do is to punch down the backup lines to regular phone jacks so that incase the phone system was to go down, the internet was to go down when we move over to the VOIP system that we have backup lines going to the front desk for them to still be able to answer phones  I tone the wires to the closet and then punch down the backup numbers on those two lines.  I then test out that work.

1:00: I am done, everything is tested out with no issues, time for me to head on home.

1:05: I am in my van heading out.

1:20: I get home.  I start putting together the final invoices for all the work I have done so that it can be invoiced for insurance purposes after the lightning strike.

2:30: I finish up all the entries into the work orders and close them out for invoicing.

3:00: I run the invoices and then email them to the client.

3:30: I go ahead and knock out, been a long day…

8:45: I get a call from the client who’s phone system I changed up last night.  They are confused with the lines that are missing.  I tell them that all the phone calls are still going to be received and come in on the main line, the buttons on these phones can handle up to 8 calls per button.

9:04: I get a call about a monitor not working.  They simply replace the monitor with another monitor they have in the office.  I have to make a toner delivery later tonight, so I will check out the monitor that wasn’t working when I deliver the toner. I doze back off.

10:37: I am awaken by a call from the phone system client.  They want to know how to pick calls back up that are on put on hold, before they could just select the line that is on hold, but now that all the calls are on one button, they have to scroll up and down the list of calls that are on hold and select the one they want to pick up.  I tell them to call me back if they have any additional issues or questions about the phone system.

10:40: As I am getting up, I notice that Buster attempts to get up and freezes in place.  It almost looks like he is having a charlie horse and can’t move his back paws.  I calm him down, and then he seems to be better then it hits him again.  I calm him down again, and then he starts gagging, and I pick him up off the bed and put him on the floor where he walks towards the door and vomits on the floor right before the door.  I then take him outside where he goes about 5 feet and pees on the cement which is unusual.  He then comes back inside and starts walking sidewards and acting weird, I have him lay down and not move.  When he seems to be better I have him get up, and then the charlie horse type symptom hits him again and I lay him down.  I clean up the vomit, and I then get dressed.  I then put his leash on him, and he seems fine and runs to the door with no problems.  He then has some diarrhea on the sidewalk on our way to the van.  I wait to he is ok before attempting to get him in the van because he gets that pain look again.  I then drive him to the vet.  He gets out the van with no problems, and I check him in.  He weighs 45.6 lbs.  We then sit around for about 30 minutes while we wait to see the vet.  The whole time he is in the vet he is acting normal, barking at other dogs and people that walk in.  We then see the vets assistant in the examination room who takes down everything as I go through what I just said.  I then wait for about 10 minutes in the examination room and the Dr comes in and see us.  I go through the whole situation that happened which brought me here.  He thinks it could be a few things, but is leaning towards pancreatitis. The doc says to leave Buster with them, and that he will possibly keep him overnight.  He wants to do some bloodwork, xrays, and also observe his behavior.  He will start treating him for pancreatitis just incase, and wait for the bloodwork results for further evaluation.  I leave my poor boy there, and head on home to get a shower and head to work.

12:45: I get in my van and head home

1:00: I am at my house.

1:10: I jump in the shower.

1:20: I jump out of the shower.

1:30: I jump into my van.

1:40: I am at McDonalds getting 2 McDoubles.

1:50: I am at my office.  I start working on finishing the laptop which I had to put the new hard drive in.

2:15: I call up a client who had left a voicemail earlier.  They are referring me to a client who is having some computer issues.  The main issue is the black screen of death on Windows Vista.  I inform him to do a system restore and then disable Windows Updates and the problem will not happen again.  He is also going to install my remote software on the computer so that I can remote into it at a later time and clean up the laptop for his friend.

2:35: I call up COX and complain about my upload speeds.  They say that there is an outage in the area and that could be affecting my speeds.  While I am not completely down the outage can cause some unwanted side affects.  At least the network is still up.

2:56: Doc calls me to update me on Buster.  So far so good, no more diarrhea and no vomiting, so the doc likes what he sees, but he tells me he will keep him overnight for observation.

3:00: I go back to applying updates to that laptop.

3:30: My business partner stops by to pick up some mail and to briefly chit chat on what we have to do to for our other business venture.

4:20: My business partner gets back on the road to head back to Chalmette.

4:30: I am done with the laptop, all updates have been applied, and basic programs have been installed as well.  At the same time I get a phone call from a client who is not able to get any of her emails.  It turns out that someone is working on her website, and they changed all the DNS settings for her domain name to a new server that is not even setup yet.  All the emails that are destined for her are hitting this new server and all of them are starting to be rejected because her email is not setup on the new server.  I go onto Google and start researching all the setting that I need to set to get her emails flowing back to the Google’s mail servers.

4:40: I go down the hall and give the laptop back to the client.

4:45: I remove all the settings that the other person had made and only added 3 entries back to point to his server.

5:00: I get a call from the client with the phone system telling me that phone calls are still coming in.  I connect to the server real quick and check things out and it just so happens that they forwarded the wrong line to the voicemail system.  I have them unforward that line and have them forward the correct line, and that resolves their problem.

5:05:   I then added 10-15 entries to repoint everything back to Google’s services for her Google Apps and emails to work properly again.  I then update everything and then able to ping everything once connecting directly to the DNS servers that I made the settings on.

5:45: I call the client and update them that all the settings have been changed back to what they should be and it will take 24-72 hours for the settings to update throughout all the servers across the world.

6:30: I head on home for diner, Popeye’s Fried Chicken.

6:45: I get home.  The chicken is good, but a little tough and maybe cooked a little too long.

7:00: My dad and I go back to my office and pick up some toner that I have for a client and 2 batteries for a UPS.

7:30: My dad and I leave the office.

7:50: We get to the office uptown.

8:00: I shutdown all the virtual servers on the main server that is going to be moved to the UPS that we are putting the batteries in.  While the updates are installing, we unpackage the batteries then I add the connection bars and wires to the batteries, then slide the batteries into the UPS.  I then connect the battery cable to the UPS and the UPS recognizes the battery as a good battery and starts charging it.  I put the UPS back together.  While I am waiting for the updates to complete. I put the toner up.  I also put the monitor that wouldn’t work this morning back in its spot, and it powers up with no issues, my dad then moves the borrowed monitor back to its computer in the other room in the office.  We then go back to the server which is finally done installing updates and shuts down.  I unplug the surge protector from the other UPS and bring it over to the UPS that we just put the new batteries in.  We then bring the server back up online, make sure its boots up and the updates were installed correctly, and make sure that the virtual servers come back online.  Everything comes back up with no issues, so we pack up and head on out.

9:00: We are back in the car, and heading back to the house.

9:20: We get back home.

9:30: I call the doc to check on Buster.  So far so good, no more diarrhea and no vomiting, so the doc likes what he sees.  He will update me on Buster about 9:30 tomorrow morning.

9:40: I am laying in bed.  I order 3 backup licenses for three different clients who’s backups are expiring.  I then apply these 1 year license renewals to the accounts.

10:00: I remote into a laptop I was working on at the office and finish updating all the updates for it.  I will have to transfer files tomorrow.

10:30: I go back to admin work and billing for the work I have done the past few days and today.

11:59: Another day over, I’ll get an update on Buster in the morning.

Chemo Day #5 + 8

09/25/2012:

9:10: A client calls me to check on how I am doing health wise since we haven’t talked in a few weeks.  I tell him that I am going to see my RadOnc later today, and I will get the results of the PetScan when I see him later today.  He has an important phone call that he has to take, and we will catch up later in the week.

9:20: Another client calls me asking me when they can drop off a few laptops and hard drives for data recovery.

10:20: My mom calls me on her way home from work.  She is going to bring me to my RadOnc appointment.

10:22: I jump out of bed and jump in the shower.

10:30: I jump out the shower.

10:40: We are heading out the house.

10:45: We are in the car rolling out.

11:00: We get to the Yenni Treatment Center.

11:05: I check in, and they go over all the data that is now in their system that I filled out on paper last time I was there.

11:20: We are called to the back.  I am weighing 256 now.

11:35: The doc comes in and starts going over the results with us.  The results are promising and I will post them!  The uptake of the radioactive glucose is decreasing which is a good thing from the last scan.  We go ahead and schedule my next PetScan and appointment to be right after my 4th cycle/8th infusion before starting the 5th cycle/9th infusion if needed.  In simpler terms what does all of this mean?  It means that I will have another Pet Scan after my 4th cycle/8th infusion.  The changes between my 1st Petscan, before my first chemo treatment, and my 2nd Petscan, after my 2nd cycle/4th infusion/treatment, were mostly down in the numbers, as you can see below in the report, which is good, from the ranges of 10 – 14 to in the 2’s.  They want to see the numbers at zero with no radioactive glucose update.  So if the numbers on the next PetScan come back as 0’s then we’ll move onto radiation and stop chemo, if not, we’ll finish up the 6 cycles/12 infusions of chemo and then go to radiation after that no matter what because they do not want to give more than 6 cycles of chemo because of the toxicity of the chemicals to my body and especially my heart.  So whats my treatment timeline that I have left?  I have either another month/1 cycle/2 infusions of therapy left from here and then 1 month of radiation therapy 5 days a week for 4 weeks, or i have 3 months/3 cycles/6 infusions of chemo therapy and then 1 month of radiation therapy 5 days a week for 4 weeks.

12:30: We are heading home.  I wanted to go to Taj Mahal but they are closed on Tuesdays.  I am in the mood for a burger, so we go to Guillory’s Grocery where I get a Hamburger PoBoy, and my Mom get’s a Hot Sausage sandwich.

1:00: We are back home and the Hamburger PoBoy is great!

1:30: I get in my van and head back over to my office.

1:40: I get to my office.

1:45: I go across the hall and get the monitor, 2 port voice card, and the hard drive that was delivered.  I can add the live music on hold stream to that phone system tonight.

2:00: I start working on the computers.  I put the new hard drive in the laptop and start the Windows 7 install.

3:00: The client stops by to drop off the laptops and hard drive for data recovery.

4:00: I get back to doing some admin work.

5:00: A good friend of mine who works at UNO and is searching for a new job stops by to chit chat and tell me how things are going at UNO.  We used to work together doing all the networking when I was a student worker for the Computer Department in the Networking Department.  We catch up on things and throw a few ideas back and forth, and will keep in touch as time goes on.

7:00: He heads on out, and I prepare to head uptown, but I also have to finish up that admin work that I was working on.

9:45: I head on out headed uptown.

10:00: I get uptown and go to work.  I save the configuration on the router that I need to add a card to and then shut down the network.  I then add the card, and bring the network back up.  I configured the router to feed the live feed back through a telephone port on the new card that I added and have that feed to all users placed on hold.  I then test this out.  I then take the individual phone lines off of their buttons and group them all onto one button so that I can add voicemail monitors on the buttons on all the phones in the back so that those voicemail boxes will notify the main 4 users if they have a message or not by blinking an envelope when there is a message waiting.  Also we are about to port the main number over to another provider that will allow 20 simultaneous phone calls on the one number at one time and all included in one package rather than having to purchase more phone lines which is more expensive to expand the number of calls that are able to be handled at one time.  That’s one of my upcoming projects.

11:59: Look at that another day done, I am still working, so catch up on tomorrow’s post 😛

Chemo Day #5 + 7

09/24/2012:

9:30: I am awaken by an email arriving on my phone.  I check it, it is just a client resolving their own issue that they wanted to let me know about.  I doze back off.

10:12: I get call from another client need help on a project of recovering some old data and info.

10:16: As soon as I hang up the phone another call rolls in.  A client can’t find her additional mailboxes inside of outlook.  I ask if they have scrolled down to the bottom of the left panel, they say they have, but noting is there.  I remote into the computer and on the left panel is the mailboxes that just had to be expanded to see the folders inside of the mailboxes.

10:30: I am off the phone.  I have tons of stuff to do today, so I get up, let Buster out, and then head for the shower.

10:40: I shave my head and face.

10:50: I jump in the shower.

11:00: I jump out the shower.  Maybe the shower I took was too hot because now I am feeling a little weak.  I take my blood sugar and it is 160.  A little high, but I am weak because I haven’t eaten anything yet.

11:15: I eat a bowl of Captain Crunch Peanut Butter.

11:45: I am feeling better.  I get my things together and head out the door.

12:00: I am in my van, and I head over to Lowes to pick up some grounding wire, wirenuts, and a coax patch cable.

12:07: I arrive at Lowes.

12:20: I am walking out of Lowes.

12:30. I am at the office.  The mailman delivers the monitor I need to install today, so I pack up and head uptown.

1:00: I installed the proprietary software on the computer and pointed the directory to the folder on the server.  The software picked up the license key when I changed the folder to the server.  I called up support, and they were surprised it did this, but luckily because it did this we did not have to change the serial number.  I the added the local printers to share, and changed the name of the old computer and then renamed the new computer so that the computer names would still be the same.

2:45: I then setup the new monitor in the stock room.  The mouse didn’t work on this computer, so I had to retrieve another mouse from one of the other computers that were destroyed by the lightning.

3:30 With the network changes and new computers, the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software was now running extremely slow.  I put a call into CRM software maker, and they had an unusual high call volume.  After 20 minutes on hold I was asked to provide a call back number and wait for a tech to call me back.  This is the first time that they have ever done that.

4:15: 45 minutes later I finally get a call back.  I explain the problem to the tech and we agree to check the settings on all the computers.  I go to each computer one at a time with the tech and they check the settings.  On a few computers some settings had to be changed  for their software, but overall everything was correct.  After touching all the computers the CRM still seemed slow.  The tech then suggested that we change the way that the CRM Server operates and put it into the Client Server mode.  The tech explains to me that this transports larger blocks of data rather than small bits of data between the client machines and the server.  Once this setting is changed the computers instantly start working with much greater speed.

6:45: After 2.5 hours on the phone the CRM and computers are setup completely and correctly.

7:30: I install the 4 telephone surge protectors to isolate the AT&T lines to the router.  I cut the line in half and put on 8 RJ 11 jacks to connect both ends of the 4 pairs of severed wire to the surge protectors.  I then wirenut the 4 ground wires together and run the wire to the central screw on the outlet.  I test that the outlet and the new surge protectors are properly grounded by using a volt meter.  I then install the network surge protector between the cable modem and the router to make sure the feed from COX was grounded.  I grounded this surge protectors to the other central screw on the 4 outlet plug, I also tested this for proper grounding with the volt meter after installation.  I then took the coax cable off of the back of the cable modem, and connected it to the surge protector in place for the outlets, and then connected a 3 foot coax cable from the surge protector back to the cable modem so that the cable feed from COX was grounded before getting to the cable modem.  This will cover all possible grounding routes.  I then tested the phone lines and the internet to ensure that all the connections were properly done.

9:30: I am done for tonight, time for me to go home.

9:35: I get in my van and head on home.

10:00: I arrive at home and Pizza from Sam’s is what’s for dinner!

11:00: Time for me to head to bed, its been a long day of work!

11:59: Another day done, and ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZ……………….

11:15: I get up out of bed after my wife called me letting me know that she was at work, otherwise I would have probably kept sleeping.

11:30: I get up, and my dad is changing out a light fixture under the cabinets above the washer and dryer.  He leaves the wiring the electrical wires and the wire nutting up to me.   I take care of that and then hold the fixture while he screws it in place under the cabinet.

12:00: Kickoff, Saints against the Kansas City Chiefs, nothing exciting, just another game to watch and see how they are doing without any coaches.

1:30: We head out to lowes, the lightbulb they wold us was defective and looked liked it was already used as it had burn marks on both sides of the fluorescent bulb.

1:40: We get to lowes.

1:50: We check out.

2:00: We are back home.

3:30: Overtime.

3:45: Saints lose, 27 to 24 in overtime.

4:45: I am at the office.

5:00: I start working on that laptop with the update issue again, this time it is to back up everything off it and reinstall windows.

6:00: I start doing some research on Google Drive and syncing multiple computers using Google as the syncing tool.

7:00: I test a few things out, waiting on the back up to complete.

8:00: I have completed some testing on the Google Drive and email my findings to a client that was interested in the using it and syncing all his computers.

9:00: I start the reinstall process after double checking all the files that I had backed up.

10:00: I do some brief programming, but watch the computers I am working on.

11:00: I am wrapping things up, just about time to head back home.

11:30: I am walking out the door.

11:40: I am on my way home.

11:50: I am home, and hungry.

11:59: Warming up some more crabmeat dressing and pasta.

Chemo Day #5 + 5

09/22/2012:

12:15: I wake up and get out of bed, and let Buster outside.

12:30: I get a call from a client who wants a new computer.  Her old computer was taken out by lightning and it was over 10 years old.  She doesn’t have a computer at home to use to order her new computer, so she would like to come into the office and order the computer at the office using one of the office computers.  I tell her that I can meet her there at 1:00.

12:40: I jump in the shower.

12:50: I jump out the shower, and head on over to my office.

1:00: I get to my office, and eat 2 McDoubles while I wait.

1:10: The client gets to my office, and we sit down and I go through the components necessary for her, and what she really needs.

1:45: We check out the Dell Shopping cart, and it will be shipped to her house.  I will be ordering her a monitor and a copy of Office 2010 because I can get it cheaper than Dell’s website.

2:00: We talk a little bit, and then she heads on out.

2:15: I start working on another client’s laptop, but I doubt anything I do is going to be able to fix it, it will probably have to be reformatted, its the same laptop that won’t get Windows updates.

3:00: I start working on some website programming that I have an idea for.  It will help out any future business ventures we have along with Hands Free Help and also help out other people if they use our service once its complete.  I am not giving too many details on it now, but its a work in progress.

4:00: I go online and pay a nice payment on one of my personal credit cards.

4:30: I turn on the TV and go back to programming.

6:30: My dad stops by with some seafood gumbo.  Crab, Shrimp, Okra, Sausage, Rice, and spices, mmm, very good!

7:30: I go back to programming and program pretty much the rest of the night.

11:59: I lock up and head on home, today was a good day!

Chemo Day #5 + 4

09/21/2012:

9:30: My business partner calls the phone and wakes me up.  He goes over a few things that was on his mind while he is driving to his next location for work.

10:00: I am up, there is no way I am falling back asleep now, I have slept for over 12 hours.  I am feeling about 80% today.

10:15: I work on shaving my face and my head with the electric razor, this is a chore since I didn’t keep up with it everyday.

10:45: I finish shaving, and hop in the shower.

10:55: I hop out of the shower, all fresh and clean!

11:05: I am in my van heading over to my office.

11:15: I am at my office.

11:30: I work on a few things for a client who is having slow computers remotely.  I call up the software company that they use and get some support from them.

1:00: We try a few things, but most likely the server has to be restarted, so that will be done this evening when I go over there with my partner to put in a shelf for the server.

1:30: I run to the bank and drop a few checks in.

1:50: I get back from the bank and remotely deposit some checks that I have been holding for me.

2:00: I work on another client’s laptop that will not update any windows Vista.  After numerous things, the computer simply has to be rebuilt. I will have to consult the client before doing this.

2:30: I throw together a website real quick for hosting.  http://www.handyshosting.com.  We have had the domain name for a while now, and now that I am doing more hosting, and just took on my gaming clan’s website for hosting, I may as well do some more advertising on the hosting side.  Nothing elaborate just yet, just quick and simple.

3:15: I finish up the hosting site, and post it a few links on the clan’s website.

4:00: My business partner calls me up telling me he will be late this evening picking me up to go over to the client’s office to put in that shelf.

4:15: I start working on the phone system for our Handy’s Handyman business to run the phone line we have for that business through our current phone system.  With the recent storm Hurricane Isaac, and a few other factors, we are ready to bring that business back up and going and bringing in some money and making up some debts.

5:00: I run into a weird problem.  Almost beating myself up over it, it is so simple, yet so complicated.  I keep getting an error message, “Connection refused by remote host”  What the heck?  that is the only way I can access it is to make the connection, and this is a secondary connection inside of a connection that I had already made. I keep trying over and over and then find the solution after a bit of googling.  Turns out the session is trying to make a secondary session using the wrong protocl, blah, I make the changes and able to get into make the changes.

6:30: My business partner gives me a call saying that he is almost done, but not yet.  I work on a few other things around the shop.

7:30: My business partner gives me a call saying he is heading back from Hammond, so he will be in about 45 minutes to pick me up and head on out.

8:15: He gets here, we talk for a little bit, and then head on out.

8:35: We are in his car heading Uptown.

9:00: He takes the wrong exit, and we are sitting in Gridlock on Poydras because they are doing construction and have few lands closed and the redlights are not synced.

9:15: We get to the client’s office uptown, and he goes to work cutting the 2×4’s to make the shelf for the server.  He screws them in and then places the 2 2x6s in place that just happen to be the right size across the 2x4s and screw them into place.  We boot up the server, and everything is good to go, the closet it 99% complete.  Just gotta put in a ground wire when I come back on Monday to install the proprietary XRay software.

10:15: My business partner and I head out, back to the office.

10:35: We get back to the office, talk briefly, and then he heads out.

10:50: I leave the office.

11:00: I get home, and eat a BBQ Roast Beef PoBoy.  Pretty good!

11:30: I am laying in my bed, on my computer, the TV on in the background, updating the hosting servers.

11:59: Another day gone!  Goodnight!

2:40: I get to the office.  I do some work here and there.

8:15: I doze off, and that’s it for the night, I am out!

Chemo Day #5 + 2

09/19/2012:

1:30: I wake up.  I let buster out, and I take my blood sugar on my own after yesterday’s elevated number, and it is 114.  So that is normal.

2:00: I am on the computer researching some stuff, and I find out how to stream an audio stream into a telephone port to create a music on hold stream.  The only way to verify this is to go to my office and test it out for myself.

2:30: I put buster in his cage, and off to my office I go.

2:45: I get to my office.  I pick up all the mail off of the floor inside of the front door.

3:00: I get together the materials to do the test.  The test doesn’t work out the first few times.

3:30: I get some change out the setup going to the back of the computer and use a different wire to go into the telephone jack on the router, then I change a config setting, and I get the music that is streaming, so I got it setup.  I then order the materials I need to make it work at a client’s location.

4:00: I clean up everything I pulled apart to make it work.

4:30: I then follow up with billing and statements.

5:00: I check on a few things remotely and make sure I can remote a few things to work on later tonight.  I can’t access one thing, so I call up a client for them to turn that computer on.

6:00: I am heading home, time for some Red Beans and Rice 🙂

6:10: I get home.

6:30: I dive into the Red Beans and Rice and Sausage.  MMMM, great!

7:00: I am done eating, and relax a little on the Lazy Boy.

7:20: I go lay in my bed and get on the computer.  I catch up my blog.

8:00: I am watching the Cosby show while working on a few minor things here and there…

10:00: Time flies by when on the computer.

11:59: Another day gone, goodnight!

Chemo Day #5 + 1

09/18/2012:

11:00: I wake up, and my mom is just getting home ready to bring me to my Pet Scan appointment.  Time to scan me and see how the tumors are reacting to the chemo therapy.

11:15: We leave the house.

11:25: We get to the Yenni Treatment Center at East Jefferson General Hospital.  I check in at the front desk.  They give me some paperwork to fill out.

11:35: I am finishing up the paperwork, and they bring me my delicious chalky berry shake in two styrofoam cups.  I drink them down quickly, blah.

11:40: They bring me to the back.

11:45: I am laying in a bed inside of one of the patient rooms in the back.  The nurse asks me where they usually stick me, and I show them the special spot on my right arm.  She says she can barely feel it, but she doesn’t feel anything else, so she will go for that one.  She sticks it with no problems.  She then pulls back some blood for a blood glucose reading.  The reading is 182, which is high.  She says it could be the result of having chemo the day before especially if I received any steroids with the chemo.  She said if it was over 200 they would have to postpone the test, but since it is under 200, we will proceed.  She then takes the radioactive glucose and pushes it into me.  I am then told to lay in the bed and relax and not move too much.  I will be laying here for an hour to let the radioactive glucose make its way through my body and be absorbed by the rapidly multiplying cells which are the cancer/tumor cells.

12:47: The come get me from the patient room, and have me empty my bladder, and then into the Pet Scan room.  I take off my watch, and put my phone down on the table inside the room.  I then lay down on the platform.  A foam device with two openings is placed under my knees to put me into position so I don’t move, and another foam device is placed under my head and spread apart so that I can put my elbows between my head and the foam, so that my hands are above my head.  The platform then raises up and brings me into the machine all the way for an initial scan.  This is where my hiccups start!  I am then pushed all the way out the other end the machine with just my feet in to start the section scans.  Luckily the hiccups stop by the time the section scan is still below my knees.  The whole scan process takes about 25 minutes.  The scanner takes me in about 9 inches at a time to scan me.

1:12: My scanning is done.  The nurse comes back in and takes the knees foam device out first and then my helps me sit up.  I put my watch back on, and grabbed my phone, and the nurse walked me all the way back to the front doors that I walked in from.  My mom is waiting in the front area.  She gets up, and we walk out to the car.

1:20: We get back in the car, and head out.  We are going to go eat.  I am not in the mood for too much, so some soup will work.  So we go to Jade Moon.

1:30: We get to Jade Moon.  I order a shrimp toast appetizer and a Jade Moon soup.

2:30: We are done with the appetizer and our soups, and head back home.

2:45: I jump on a client’s server to check an email issue.  I changed some settings, but the server didn’t automatically apply these settings, so I had to force the server to restart the service to apply the settings.  Once that was changed, the problems were taken care of.

3:00: I am just resting in bed, checking on a few things.

5:00: I start working on a client’s computer who wants to have remote access to his office computer through the vpn.  I start working on the computer and get most of the settings in place.  I am on the final step, and I doze off.

9:30: I wake up and get out of bed, and eat some shrimp etoufee.

10:00: I then finish the settings, and complete the remote access setup.

10:15: I am researching a few things, doing some admin work, along with closing up some work orders to be invoiced.

11:30: I finish up the work, and start dozing back off to sleep.

Chemo Day #5: ~~~~ 7 More to Go

09/17/2012:

12:15: My dad and I get home from uptown.

12:30: I am in bed and nod off.

8:20: I get a phone call from the client whos location I was at last night.

8:30: After some basic troubleshooting, I decide it best to head to the client’s location while the client calls AT&T.

9:00: I arrive on site.  What do you know the phone lines are working again.  The client tells me that AT&T was having some issues with the system, and they fixed it on their end.  I check out a few things and everything is fine on the client’s end.

9:35: I head on back home to catch up some more sleep before I have chemo.

10:00: I get home and doze back off.

11:00: My wife wakes up to head to work, and I am still dozing.

12:00: I get up and get ready to get a shower.

12:15: I jump in the shower.

12:30: I jump out the shower.

12:45: I put on the lidocane numbing cream on my port, and cover it with saran wrap.

1:00: My Uncle Frank picks me up.

1:15: My Uncle Frank drops me off at the Yenni Treatment Center @ East Jefferson General Hospital.

1:20: I check in at the front desk and they send me upstairs to wait in the waiting room.

1:45: The call me into the room, and sit me in chair 1.

2:00: They have me sign my consent on the four pages, one for each drug they will be pumping into me.

2:10: They stick the needle into me, and start a saline drip.

2:25: They hang my emend bag and start pumping that into me.  This is for anti nausea.

3:01: The Zofran and the Decadron beg is hung and starting to be pumped into me.

3:25: The Adriamycin is starting to be pumped into me.  See the nice red color :P

3:40: They want to flush the Adriamycin so they hook the saline drip back up.  However there is a 1 foot gap of air in the line, so i hit the stop button on the IV pump.  The alarm comes off, they ask what’s going on, and I tell them.  They pump up to a certain part and then pull out the air from the line with a syringe hooked to the line and then continue pumping

3:50:  They hook up my Bleomucin and start pumping that into me.

4:17: They push  the Vinblastine out of the syringe.

4:20: They hook up my Dacarbazine and start pumping that into me.

5:00: The Dacarbazine is done, they are now just flushing me with saline.

5:07: The pull out the needle and put a piece of tape over me.

5:15: I am packing up my laptop, and we are heading out of here!  I am riding home with my dad.

5:45: We get home.

6:00: I am in bed sleeping!

10:00: I wake up.  I am starving, all I had to eat all day was 10 chicken nuggets.  I eat a few big macs and some shrimp etoufee.

11:45: I have a few final sips of some cherry 7up before bed, can’t drink or eat anything after midnight since I have my pet scan tomorrow!

11:59: Another chemo day done with, blah…

Chemo Day #4 + 12

09/16/2012:

11:15: I get up out of bed, I take buster out, and setup my laptop in the lazy-boy chair again.  I turn on the TV in preparation of the Saints game.

11:30: My mom starts to prepare the minute steaks she is going to fry for lunch.

12:00: Kick off.

12:15: I am chatting online with my gaming buddy from England.  It appears that I am going to be moving the gaming clan’s website and forums over to my servers at the office.

12:30:  Lunch is ready.

12:45: I tear into lunch.  Fried minute steaks 🙂  I eat a number of them.  Mmm. Minutes Fried Steaks, my favorite!

1:30: I am done eating the steaks, and now I go lay in my room to watch rest of the game be on the computer.

2:00: I start working on downloading everything from the old clan website.  I also download the 3 databases as well.

2:45: I have all the databases downloaded.

3:15: I have all the website files downloaded.

3:3:0 I start uploading the website files to my server.

3:35: My dad and I go to my wife’s work, as she locked her keys in her car.

3:45: We arrive at her work, and she uses my keys to unlock her car.

3:55: We head back home.

4:05: We get back home, and I lay on the bed and continue the transfer work.  I start uploading the databases to the new server.

7:00: The transfers are complete.  The website is now up and running, so everthing is good to go!  I’ll configure the teamspeak server later tonight.

8:00: My dad and I head over to my office. We turn on my computer which turned itself off. We also have a big UPS that we need to move downstairs to my van, so he goes back and gets the ups out the van. He gets the handtruck up, and we do a few other things around the office. The we load up the handtruck, and head downstairs and we load the.van.

9:15: We are on our way to the clients office uptown.

9:45: we get to the clients office and unload the van. I get the closet ready and out in a new surge protector and my dad goes upstairs and unpacks and puts in place the new computer for upstairs. Then he comes down and helps me unpack the heavy 50lbs ups. We put this in place and hook up the network and alarm to it. We then out everything back in the closet that we took out and power it all up. Everything works. We then go upstairs and hook up a small switch and kvm to the new computer so the both can be used until I get the proprietary software loaded onto the new mqhine that they use almost everyday. The new key code is like an act of congress. The manufacturer in France has to be contacted by the company here to relay all the info, get a response, then relay all that info to me, so that will have to be another day. We go downstairs and start packing up. I call the phones on the wat out to make sure that they were still working after finishing the closet. The voicemail picks up, so everything is good from that perspective.

11:45: My dad and I get in the van to leave. Before we pull out, I do check the roof of my van, nothing is there, good. I drive us on home.

Chemo Day #4 + 11

09/15/2012:

11:00: I get out of bed.  I am rested and ready to start my day.  My mom went to McDonalds this morning and picked up some Egg McMuffins.  I can’t remember the last time I had one of these.  So I go ahead and eat two of them 😛

11:45: I shave my face and my head, I like keeping a low profile 😉

12:00: I jump in the shower.

12:15: I jump out of the shower.

12:30: I am on my computer at home.  I remote into a clients computer and start working on it.  They are having an issue of installing any windows updates, matter of fact, is has never installed any updates.  I work on the laptop on and off trying to diagnose exactly what is causing windows to not update.

1:00: I update the phone system I was working on with a hold-alert after 90 seconds to remind the users that they have a call on hold.  I first put the settings in place on the phone system I have at my office since it is the same phone system and then I apply it to their phone system.  I also add a button to the receptionist side cars for quicker forwarding to voicemail when closing for the day.

1:30: I quickly put together a Dell shopping cart for a new computer for the client who had email issues earlier this week.   I email them the the cart once I am done.

1:45: I get done applying the settings for the phone system.  I then go back to checking on the non updating laptop.  It won’t even run a microsoft fix to fix microsoft updates, and it won’t start a scan to verify that the integrity of the system files.  I download and run 2 different malware scans.

3:00: I am tired of sitting up.  I go to my room and lay on my bed, and use my laptop.  While the scan is scanning, I start billing for all the work I did all week.

4:00: The first scan finishes up, and I still can’t do anything on the computer, so I start a second program to scan.

4:15: I start entering in hardware that was used for the work throughout the week.

5:30: I get to a point on the computer with the update problems that I am starting to run out of options.  It is looking like that I am going to have to attempt a repair install more and more.  Hopefully not a complete reinstall, but it is possible.  It is the terrible vista operating system, blah.

6:00: I email the client letting them know that the laptop is not repairable remotely.  I will have to get my hands on the laptop and try doing a repair install and see if that fixes the issue.

6:45: I finish putting the billing and items throughout the week.

7:00: My dad throws the boneless pork ribs on the BBQ pit.

7:45: The ribs come off the pit.  Nice and juicy and tender ribs. MMM.  I eat a few just with their natural flavor, then I eat 2 with some Heinz 57, and some more with the A1 Bold and Spicy.  Good stuff!  Great food as always, I know how to eat 😛

9:00: I am laying back in bed, just doing some research and making sure everything is good to go from this week.  I have Chemo again on Monday, so if there is anything else I have to do, I will have to do it tomorrow.

10:00: I log into the blog and start updating today’s happenings along with checking some emails!

11:50: I see my computer is offline at work, blah, I will have to go in tomorrow to see why it is offline.

11:59: Another day is over.

Chemo Day #4 + 10

09/15/2012:

9:44: I get a call from a client seeing if I am available to come in today to change out a network switch with one that she had purchased today.  I tell her that I have an appointment with a client for 11:00, but I can be there after.

10:00: I get up out of bed and let Buster out.

10:15: I jump in the shower.

10:30: I jump out the shower.

10:45: I am in my van heading over to my office.

11:00: I get to my office.  I take an old computer that I have in the back and attempt to install Windows XP on it.  The regular cd rom won’ t work.  I gotta go old school and make 6 disks to be able to boot the computer properly to launch from the cd rom to install Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

12:30: I call the client who was supposed to show up.  She forgot about me until she saw the name on the caller ID.  She said she would come right over.

12:45: The client arrives, and brings me back my power cord that I loaned her.  I examine the power cord and find that it is chewed.  Luckily it is chewed between the wall and the power supply and not the other end, that side is cheaper.  I will have to order another cord and just send her the bill for the cord.  I put in the new battery and and plug in the power supply and everything is good to go.

1:00: I head on out to head to New Orleans East.  I have to first fill up with gas because I am at 270 miles and I can get close to 300 miles per tank, a little more.  I don’t have a gas guage so I have to go by the mileage.

1:15: I get to the gas station and fill up.  My van only took 17 gallons, meaning I had 5 and 1/2 gallons left in the tank and could had made the round trip.

1:30: I hit the interstate heading for New Orleans East.  I have to pass up a mobile home being transported that is taking up the entire left two lanes, interesting.

2:15: I arrive at the client’s office.  I take down their network and plug all the computers into the new gig switch that she had purchased, and plug the machines into the back of the router which is only 100 MB.  I also have an issue getting online.  Stupid AT&T and their passwords needed to get online.  COX just comes on with no passwords to worry about.  Did I say I prefer COX?  After trying a number of things, I reset the modem and the router and it magically comes back online accepting the password. WHATEVER!  AT&T.  I check all the  computers to make sure they all have internet access and can access the shared drives on the server.  With that I leave.

3:15: I get into my van and head back to Metairie.

3:30: I hit the traffic 5 miles away from my exit.  I get off at Canal Street and take the backroads to Veterans and head to my office that way.  I am 3 blocks away from my corner and traffic is backed up and doesn’t move much with each redlight so I turn off earlier.  Going down the block I think I recognized the mailman and turn around and catch him on his route.  I ask if what I think is his name is his name, and he says yeah, and how did I know that.  I tell him that he worked with my dad at another office and I remember him from there.  He immediately remembered.  We talk for a little bit and then I continue back towards my office.

4:00: I get into my office.  I see the Music Computer has finished installing Windows XP and I put it up in the closet on the shelf where the old computer was.  I then remote into it and start the music playing throughout the office again.  4 weeks with no music was too much…

5:15: A prospective client calls me up asking me if I work on personal laptops or just strictly networked computers.  I tell him that we work on everything.  He explains to me the issue and I tell him it could either be a hardware or software issue and that I would really have to look at it to tell.  He says that he will bring it over shortly.

5:40: The client arrives with the laptop.  I attempt to boot it and it just gives me a blue screen and restarts no matter what mode I try to start it in.  I then put in a linux boot disk and boot into a gui.  I see that I cannot tell the drive size data on the hard drive in this interface.  I then do a chkdsk scan on the computer which finds 4 bad sectors and number of other problems with files on the partition.  The chkdsk fixes all of these problems, and then I am able to boot into windows.  The computer seems to be running a little slow, so I do a registry clean which removes over 500 registry issues and also stop the extra startup items that don’t need to be starting up when the computer starts.  I do a quick virus scan and nothing is found.

7:45: The client returns to pick up his laptop.  I restart the computer with him and it seems to restart faster after the work I did to it.  The client is satisfied and takes the laptop home.

8:00: Time for me to head home.

8:05: I get in my van.

8:20: I arrive home.

8:30: I sit down at the table and start eating some BBQ shrimp and shrimp creole.  Good stuff.

9:30: I am laying in bed.  Catching up the blog.  I got three days to catch up, so here it goes…

11:59: Time to go to sleep… The blog is caught up and I am getting tired 😛 Goodnight!

Chemo Day #4 + 9

09/13/2012:

12:00: I install office on the machine, install the local printer and share it, and install the network printers from other computers.  I then log into the account used by the staff and check out everything.  Everything checks out great, so my dad and I can head out.

12:30: We get in the van and head out.  This time my laptop is inside my van, not on top of my van.

12:50: We get home.  I eat some spaghetti and red sauce along with some cheese sprinkled on top.

1:30: I am laying in bed.  I got my laptop back, so I will sleep really well tonight!

8:23: I get a call waking me up.  It is from a client asking about ringers on the phone.  They see the extra ringers added but they cannot assign them to other extensions.  I tell them that I am going to finish that feature later tonight.  I just got the extra ringers added last night and need to do some more configuring tonight.

8:30: I don’t want to get up just yet, but I do have a doctor’s appointment for 9:30:  I doze back off.

9:10: I wake up.  I 20 mins to my appointment.  I grab my keys and wallet and head out the door.

9:27: I get to the parking garage, once again what is it with people that can’t park between the two yellow lines.

9:30 I find a parking spot.

9:35: I walk into the office.  I am seated in my own area that way I don’t have to be around the other patients that are sick.

10:03: I am showed to the patient room. The nurse even wipes down the chair before I sit down.

10:10: Dr. Jacob shows and goes through the check up.  He  is making sure that I am doing well.  He liked what he sees, likes my attitude, all is well!

10:25: I leave the hospital, and head over to another hospital closer to my house where I always go for my bloodwork.

10:35: I get there, and it is raining.  The whole parking lot is full.  I end up parking on the 4th level of the parking garage.  I take the elevator down to the ground level, and then walk across the parking lot in a light rain to the other building.

10:40: I sign in and wait.

10:42: I am called to the back.

10:50: The nurse sticks me twice with the same needle, and gets it on the second poke.  Its a butterfly needle, so I barely feel it.

10:55: I am out of there.

11:05: I get home, my wife is just leaving for work.

11:15: I jump in the shower.

11:30: I jump out the shower.

11:45: I get in my van and head over to my office.

12:00: I get to the office.

12:10: I go down the hall and pick up a laptop from a client who is having issues booting the laptop.

12:20: I start working on the laptop, but it appears that this laptop is going to be a challenge.  It won’t boot.  The hard drive is also inaccessible and not readable.  I also attempt to repair the music computer for the shop one last time, but now it appears the motherboard has had it, as it doesn’t even make it through its self check without freezing.

12:30: I get a call from a client that is having issues logging into quickbooks.  She forgot her password.  Luckily she told me some time ago, I remote into the computer and I try it with her.  It works, she just wasn’t putting it together right.

1:00: I take the hard drive out the laptop and try to do a scan connected to another computer.  The scan won’t work, and the hard drive’s partitions is showing up as empty.

2:30: I head back uptown to the police station to talk to the office that I reported the laptop as missing to as found so that the serial number can be pulled off of the missing/stolen list.

3:00: I park a block away again and walk over to the Police Station.

3:07: I get inside the police station and ask for the officer.  I take a seat and wait for him to show up.

3:10: The officer meets up with me and tells me that they are working on it.  I show him that I have my laptop back.  He runs upstairs to tell the detective that he has on the case to stop investigating it.  The investigator had just called Cox and got the exact address of the first IP address.  It was a Popeyes just a few blocks down the street.  They hadn’t researched the second IP yet, but that was it I got my laptop back, so they could close the missing item report.

3:20: I leave the police station.

3:30: I arrive at the office I have been doing work at.  I install the two computers upstairs, one new location and one at a location where a computer was fried when the lighting strike happened.  I completely configure them for their locations.  I also find that the upstairs monitor is out and needs to be replaced.  I also do some network

6:30: I am done working for today, time to head home.

7:00: I get home.  The steaks that my dad are cooking are just about done.

7:15: We all sit down and eat the steaks. I have 2 or 3, very good.  The first one without any steak sauce the others with the A1 Bold & Spicy.

8:00: Food is all done, mmm, mmm, good.

8:15: I lay in my bed and catch up on billing for the week and a few other admin things.  I also remote into the office to fix the ringers.

11:00: I start dozing off.  Long night. ZzZzZzZzZz

Chemo Day #4 + 8

09/12/2012:

12:00: I continue bugging AT&T and then just finally give up with them, the lady is clueless on how to respond to my request as it is completely over her head.

12:15: I gather all the information into print format.  I print up the IP Address, my reports on where the IP Address is etc.

1:00: My dad and I get in the car and go to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to try to follow up with the new information.  We go to two separate police stations, no one is at either location, just dark offices and locked doors, oh well, guess this will have to be something we do tomorrow.  We drive around and then head home.

3:00: We arrive home, time to grab some shut eye.  Hopefully the guy will call me.

7:10: I get a call from a client.  The internet is down and the phones are down.  I have them reboot the router and the switch and everything comes back up OK.

7:30: I remote into the server to check the settings.  All the settings are ok.  There is an error from a duplex mismatch between the router and the cable modem, so I fix that issue, everything else is good to go.  I hang up with them after I confirm my changes didn’t affect them negatively.

7:45: I doze back off.

9:09: Another client calls me.  They cannot open their outlook.  Outlook is saying that the file was closed incorrectly and needs to be checked, however the time to check the files keeps growing and growing and the end doesn’t seem anywhere in site.  I remote into the computer and delete the outlook account.  I then create a new account so that it can download all of the emails from the server.  No worries, the server stores everything, so it is just a simple download of everything again.  The download starts and everything is workable, slow, but workable.

9:29: I hang up the phone and doze back off to sleep.

11:15: My wife and I wake up and get out of bed.  She gets ready for school, and I take out Buster and get ready to get a shower.

11:30: My wife leaves for school. I shave my face and my head.  It takes a little while because it has been a few days since I have shaved my head.

11:55: I get a call from the email client.  They have run out of disk space.  I remote back in and delete the old outlook file, and that clears up the issues.  Its really time for a new computer.  The computer is the oldest computer at this office.

12:10: I jump into the shower.

12:25: I jump out of the shower.

12:45: I head out over to my office.

1:00: I get to my office.

1:10:  I go across the hall and get some packages that were delivered there.

1:30: I sit down and start checking emails and do some ordering.

1:45: I get a call from a client, their voicemail system is not working on their phone system.  I look into the issue and it seems that the flash card has been corrupted inside the system.  This means I will have to take it apart and reflash the card and then reinstall the software for the voicemail.  No big deal, I’ll take care of this tonight.

2:00: I type up another follow up on the previous night for the officer.

2:45: I head over to the bank to make a deposit for the checks I received this week in the mail.

3:00: The officer I spoke to comes back on duty, but is out on the streets, I get the fax number to the police station.

3:15: I fax over the updates to be added to the report and aid them in their follow up.

3:30: I start to do some billing for the previous few days work.

4:00: I do my own research on different techniques to gain access to information that will help me also search for the exact whereabouts of my laptop.

6:30: I leave the office and head home.  I eat 3 left over meatballs for supper.

7:00: My dad and I head out the house and back uptown to do some more work.

7:30: We get to the office.  We take out the router to get the the voicemail flash. We plug the router back in and I put in a CD into another computer.  I pull the image for the card off of the server I have at my office.  We then pull the router back out and pop the card back in when we are done.

8:15: I start reinstall the software on the voicemail flash.  Again downloading everything from my office servers to the card.

9:30: I am done reinstalling the voicemail flash.  The voicemail is completely operational again. I even discover how to backup the voicemail flash this time, so I can save the greetings set already incase of a future crash.

9:45: My dad finishes swapping out one of the old computers with a new computer.  Time to configure the new computer.

9:50: I remove the virus software that comes with the computer.  I also remove all the unneeded software installed on the computer.

10:30: I add the computer to the domain and start prepping to install the software used on the domain.

10:49: I receive a phone call.  What do you know, its the guy who has my laptop.  He is at the Walmart on Jefferson Highway.  I tell him that if he can wait about 30 minutes, I’ll be there since I am all the way uptown.  My dad and I stop what we are doing, get in my van, and drive down Magazine Street all the way to River Road.  I then take river road all the way to a street that runs behind Walmart.  I turn up that street and and then pull into the parking lot looking for his car.

11:19: I drive across the lot and find him.  He sees me, opens up his car and grabs the laptop in its bag.  I grab the cash out my wallet leaving that and my keys in my van.  My dad also gets out the van.  He gives me the laptop, and I give him the $100.00.  So it all works out.  Its my red case, I open the case, make sure it is my laptop, I boot it up and it has my and my dad’s login on the screen.  Everything is in good shape and surprisingly the laptop survived the fall from 6ft and moving at 35 mph.

11:29: My dad and I are heading out.  Back to the office we go.

11:49: We get back to the office and continue working where we left off. I install the office antivirus.

11:59: What ya know, another day gone, I got my laptop back, so all is very good!

Chemo Day #4 + 7

09/11/2012:

12:00: Here I am still working on the computer.  I add the other network printers to this computer so that they can print to this computer.  I then test printing to the printers.  I also test out the functionality of the programs used by the staff.

12:45: I add the lines and voicemails to the sidecars.  I setup the voicemails for the staff as well.

1:30: My dad and I get everything together.  I have my laptop, the keys, a box, and the lender POE switch.  My dad has a few things.  We have everything to make one trip.  I open the door, the keys come off my laptop back.  I reach down to pick them and and hit my head on the guard rail.  I pick up the keys and unlock the van.  My dad opens the back of the van, while I go to the side door.  When I try to open the door it doesn’t open right, so I put my laptop on top of the van and I finish loading what I have in my hand.  My dad closes the back of the van, and I close up the side door.

1:37.  I look at my watch as I walk around the van to get in.  We are both in the van. I start up the van, and we drive off.

1:55: We are half way home when I try to remember what I did with my laptop.  I pull over to the side of the road and search the van.  It is not, uh oh, I realize that I remember putting my laptop on top the van, but I do not remember taking it off.  I turn the van around and head back to the office to check the area around the van was parked to see if it fell off when we were leaving.

2:05: We get back to the office, and the computer is no where to be found on the ground, we search the van again, not there.  We drive the route 3 times looking very close and we don’t see it anywhere!  I head back to the office where we started.

2:45: I log into my LogMeIn account to check on my computer.  Someone turned it on because it was last seen online at 2:06.  BLAH, I have my remote software, so all is not loss, but it is now going to be a challenge to get that laptop back. I call up COX and tell them that I lost my laptop, I did a traceroute and see that it is in New Orleans and on a COX IP.  They tell me that they cannot give me that information, and can only give that kind of information to an active investigation by police.  I figured the would tell me that, but it didn’t hurt to try.  At least when I called COX, they knew exactly what I was talking about and new how to respond to me.

3:05: My dad and I head home, there is nothing else can do, no sense looking on the street anymore, someone picked it up.

3:30: We get home.  I try to sleep but can’t I check the status of the laptop a number of times. It doesn’t come back on and I eventually fall back asleep.

9:00: I wake up, the laptop still hasn’t been back online.

10:00: I get up out of bed, the laptop is still not back online.

10:15: In the shower.

10:30: Out of the shower.

10:45: Out of the door.

10:57: I get a spot to park.

11:00: I have an appointment with Dr. Yager.  He checks me out and likes what he sees 😉  LOL NO NO, not that way.  My neck feels fine, my breathing is good, and everything about is pretty good.  He goes over things he has been doing around the office since I have last seen him.  As long as nothing else goes wrong, he will see me in 4 months for a regular check up.

12:00: I get on the chat with Dell to find out the serial number of the laptop along with the date of purchase and a few other things.  They are able to pull up all this information even though I purchased this laptop 5 years ago.  Wow 5 years, that was quick…  I use this laptop strictly for configuring networks and remote access.  I don’t keep any client information or personal information on this computer.  It is just a dummy computer with some tricks and tools of the trade loaded into it to make my job easier.  But it is my computer.

1:30: I get all this info emailed to me, I type up a statement, and compile as much stuff as I can.

2:00: I have my mom snap some pictures of my wife’s laptop and the laptop case, as I bought two of these at the same time off of Dell Outlet.

2:30: I print up all this paperwork and the pictures.  I print up three copies of all the paperwork.

2:35: I lock up the office, get in my car, and head down to the 2nd District Police Station in New Orleans.

3:00 Traffic is terrible with all the schools on the route and around the police station.  I get a place to park where we usually park when we go uptown to eat at the Indian restaurant.  I walk around the block and into the police station.

3:15: I am asked to have a seat and someone will be with me shortly.

3:20: An officer briefly talks to me asking me what I need, and tells me he will take care of me shortly.

3:25: Another lady comes in and she is also asked to wait.

3:30: I wait to talk to an officer.

3:35: The lady is service first, I am not going to argue.  She is chasing a lost cell phone, but in the wrong district, so she is told to report to another district, and given instructions of how to.

3:40: I am seen.  I give the office all of the paperwork that I have prepared.  He writes down the info and then reads through the paperwork that I have brought.  He is interrupted a number of times with calls over the radio and calls on the phone.  He is the only person working the front desk, so it is his job to not only take care of me, but to take care of all radio calls for the station and all incoming phone calls. I repeat myself a few times and we finally get all the details out.  He writes up a item number for me and will file the report.  He gives me the item number with the info, and sends me on the my way.  The only thing he told me is that since it is lost and not stolen that it will not be actively investigated.  GREAT!  That means I will have to do more investigation work myself and watch for my laptop to come back online.

4:30: I head back out to my van and head back to the office I was at the night before to check on things.  Everything is fine.  I could do a few things today, but I am tired, and don’t feel like sticking around tonight.

5:00: I get in my van and head back home.

5:30: I get home.  I get on my computer to check on my laptop, and it still hasn’t made its way back online yet.  I eat some Tacos.  Then a family friend brings over some wheat pasta, red gravy, handmade meatballs, spinach and breadcrumbs, salad, bread, and cheese.  I eat a plate of this.

6:00: I am laying on my bed checking the status of my laptop.  I start dozing off.

7:00: Wake up check, the laptop is still offline, doze off.

8:30: Wake up check, the laptop is still offline, doze off.

10:00: Same thing again and again, here and there, you get the picture.

11:30: I wake up, check the status, and its online, I do a double take and see it is online, this is my chance.  I remote into the computer and send a message to the user saying that I see they have found my laptop, and I put my cell phone number for them to contact me.  They close out the screen.  I then become persistent.   I tell them that it is my laptop, who I am the usernames on the computer. I tell them that the computer has been reported as missing to the NOPD.  I even tell them that I will reward them with $100 for returning my laptop to me.  I tell him I will meet him tonight, he doesn’t want to meet tonight, he will meet tomorrow he says.  He repeats my phone number and asks if that is correct, I confirm.  He says he will contact me tomorrow when he is in Metairie.  For some reason I doubt that this person will really contact me, but I know the money side of things will hopefully work in my favor.  The whole time while I am on the computer with him, I attempt to contact the police department.  They are of no help!  I do a traceroute and find that the computer is now in Marrero on an AT&T Uverse account according to the IP address of where the computer is at.  I can provide myself with more information than needed by the police and ISP to come up with an exact street address.  I contact AT&T.  WOW AT&T again, here we go again.  Their tech support is horrible.  They do not even know what they are talking about. I was asking them about tracing an IP, and the lady told me they had no way of doing that. I lit into the lady.  I was like by law they have to keep records of everyone and the IPs that are used and associated to what customer at what time.  She says AT&T can’t do that.  I tell her that COX can, and other ISP’s can, why can’t they, they should be able to.  WHO DOES AT&T HIRE?  Another reason I hate AT&T.  She gives me the number to the sales department and says I should contact them in the morning for more information.  How the hell is the sales department going to help me when what I am looking for is technical. BLAH Stupid AT&T, I can never stand talking to their tech support, I feel as if I am talking down to them everytime.

11:59:  With that said the night is over.  Check tomorrow for where this continues.  The computer is turned off and is no longer online 09/11/2012 11:59 – Last Seen Online.

Chemo Day #4 + 6

09/10/2011:

11:30: I get out of bed. I let buster out and go grab a shower.

12:00: I head out to the office.

12:15: I get to the office.

12:30: I catch up on a few admin things.  I am also working on the media computer, no music in the office without this computer :(.  I believe the motherboard is failing, so time to toss out this computer and bring up the next oldest box I got for basic music streaming.

1:00: I am doing things various things around the office.  Nothing too critical, just small things.

2:45: I get a call from a client in New Orleans East who has not had internet access for a few days and the network is not working properly.  I grab two network switch, get in my van, and drive the 15 miles.

3:30: I arrive on site.  I see the old switch not doing anything, lights are lit, but nothing is happening on the network.  I remove the switch, I put the new switch in.  I then unpack and configure a new router that she had as well.  I setup the DSL username and password, and the internet comes up, along with the network.  The network printer starts spitting out pages, and everything looks to be back up and running.  I retip some wires that have broken tips.  I test a computer that was moved from one location to a new location.  I also looked at a UPS that was having issues.  The wrong batteries were purchased for the UPS, so I will purchase the correct batteries to get the UPS up and functioning again.

5:30: Everything is good to go at the office, so I get in my van and head back to my office.

6:00: I get back to my office and get the new monitor, side cars for the phones, and a few other small items I need to do some work tonight.  I head on over to the house and grab a quick bite to eat.

6:15: I am home.

6:20: I eat 2 meatball on bread with mayo sandwiches.

6:50: My dad and I in my van heading back uptown to the client’s office.

7:15: We gt to the client’s office and go to work.  I have my dad unpack 2 of the 3 new computers.  While he is unpacking I start cutting finishing up the rack install.  I install the two wire managements into the rack.  I install the router into the rack, and I install the new network switch that came in today into the rack.  I then pull new cable from a 1000 ft box and cut the wires from the patch panel to the switch to length and cut the ends and tip them.

9:30: I am finished with all the network wire install.  I now begin to configure the switch.  There are to networks in one, the phone network and the computer network.  I need to configure the switch to handle both and also, so that the phones hand off the computer network from their second port.

10:30: The network is completely configured.  I have rebooted the router and the switch multiple times to make sure that the correct configuration comes back up.

11:00: I backup the configurations on the two computers I am about to change out.  Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit.  I then have my dad change out the first computer.

11:15: I install my remote software on the new computer and sit by the front desk computer and remote in.  The computer is at a station that is used when standing up, and I don’t feel like standing up the whole time to configure it.  I remove all the uneeded software that comes with it from Dell.  I then join it to domain.  Login as the admin, add the antivirus software, add Microsoft Office, add the local label printer and share it.

11:59: Look at that, another day gone, check me finishing up this computer in tomorrow’s post.

Chemo Day #4 + 4

09/08/2012:

12:30: I done for tonight, and heading home.

12:50: As I am getting close to home I call the office I was at just to see if the Answer Machine picks up.  It doesn’t.

1:00: I go inside and check a few things and the configuration looks right, so I better head back over to the office or they will be calling me in the morning if the phones don’t work.

1:25: I get back at the office and I can dial out, so its not an issue with the phone lines.  I do some closer research and change a few settings and then I am able to call the voicemail again, so that problem is resolved.

1:40: I get in my van and head back home.

2:00: I get home, get washed up, and jump into bed.

1:00: I wake up.  A good 11 hour rest.  My body needs its more rest lately, but whatever it wants, I’ll let it have, I won’t push it too much, but within limits.

1:15: I eat the last Big Mac that was in the fridge.

2:00: I am laying in bed again, mainly because I don’t feel like sitting in my computer chair.  I start all the administrative work of putting together all the billing for the phone system I am putting together, and other work I have done this week.

6:00: I get out of bed and eat supper which is BBQ’s Hot Dog’s, Sausage, and Turkey Burgers, Lamb Burgers, and regular Hamburgers.

7:00: I am laying back in bed.  I finish up inputting everything I purchased into the system and all the detail about all the work I did.

9:00: I am just relaxing watching TV now.  I feel a little nauseated.  Not from food, just from smells and weird tastes that are starting to come to my mouth for no reason now.  Its all reminding me of Chemo which is not a lovely thing.

11:00: I eat some country fried steak that my wife brought home from work and it is good!!!

11:59: I am watching Pawn Stars on the history channel, about to fall asleep, but another day is gone!

default

Chemo Day #4 + 3

09/07/2012:

11:30: I get up.  I am feeling OK, but a little weak and a little nauseated, but OK.  I do some work on the computer and eat a Big Mac.  I also take a Zofran to take care of my nausea.

12:10: My wife calls me saying that she locked her keys in her car at school.  I tell her she should go to class first and call me after her classes and I will bring her the spare key, she goes to her class and will call me later.

12:20: I call a client who had called me the day before who had problems with their computer blue screening since the storm.  I tell them that I can come over today, right after I get out the shower.

12:30: I jump in the shower.

12:40: I jump out the shower.

12:50: I jump in my van and head to my office.  I pick up the CDs I need to fix the computer.

1:00: I leave my office.

1:10: I arrive on site.

1:15: I start scanning the computer with a chkdsk scan because the blue screen is showing the bootable partition unmountable.

3:00: The scan finishes up. I reboot the computer.  I login and everything seems to be running fine.  I will check back with him on Monday.

3:15: I head on out.  I get into my van and head over to Delgado to unlock my wife’s car for her.

3:35: I meet my wife and unlock the car for her.  I then head on over to my CPA to pick up the tax work for 2011 that needs to be filed by September 15th, 2012, because the extension was filed.

4:00: I get to my CPA’s office, and she goes over everything with me.

4:20: I head on over to my office.

5:30: I head on over to do some firmware upgrades on the phone system I am installing.

6:00: I pick up 2 McDoubles from McDonalds on Claiborne, little did I know a doctor got held up just a day before at this McDonalds.

6:45: I get to the office and eat my McDoubles.

7:00: I go to work upgrading the firmware on the phones from the factory firmware.

9:00: I finish the upgrade on the 10 phones which took 3 rounds of updates to get to the latest version.  An office upstairs used to have a phone at  second desk, but not a computer.  I change out the wall plate to an RJ45 jack.  I then go down to the com closet and tone out the line.  I find it in the stack of telephone cables.  I need to punch down the telephone cables to be able to use some of them as network cables.   I then move the 66 punch block for the phones on its side in the closet.  I then pull all the telephone cables that are Cat5e Cables and bunch them together.  I then mounted a 12 port Cat5e Network Patch Panel to the wall in the com closet.  I punched down the 12 lines and find the line that is being toned out.  I then run that line from that patch panel up to the patch panel that I have in the rack.  This is usually a no no, but when the current wires are too short to do anything else with, you gotta do, what you gotta do.  I punch down the patch cable that I make once side RJ45, the other side RJ45 Keystone Jack and put it into the panel.  I then test the cable and it passes.  I move the phone to the desk and plug it in.  This phone will not operate till the I get the Powered Network Switch that should come in on Monday.

11:00: I take apart the two front phones.  I take off the stands and add on the stands that will support the side cars.  I add the side cars, but the side cars I got are not compatible with the phones.  BLAH My Chemo Brain has tricked me up again.  I configure the phones to handle the cars when I get them in, and I also add the extra mailboxes to the phone systems for the office.

11:59: I am done for today.  I start packing up everything and loading my van.

7:00: I eat another Wendy’s hamburger, and go and lay down in bed, and crash hard.

11:30: I get up, eat a Big Mac from McDonald’s that my mom had picked up while I was sleeping, and then back to bed.  This may be the shortest post yet, but most of my day was spent sleeping…

Chemo Day #4 + 1

09/05/2012:

10:00: I get a call from a client about their internet being down.  I do some research, and ask the client to call the service provider, as it seems to be something wrong on the service providers side, as nothing has changed, and the client has already done the basic troubleshooting and restarting of equipment.

11:00: I eat some handmade hamburger meat that my mom had made, and some left over steak from the other night.

12:00: I check a few things on my computer in the living room.

1:00: I go lay back in bed and work from my laptop in the bed.  I am not really tired, but feeling a little weak, so I would rather be laying down right now.  I also am watching the Mentalist in the background.

2:00: I doze off for a little bit, and am awaken by my wife calling to ask me a question.

6:00: My mom is just getting off of work, and going to pick up some fast food on her way home.

6:30: My mom gets home, and brings home some Wendy’s for me, and some Popeye’s fried chicken for her and my dad.  I am not in the mood for greasy chicken, so I take my Wendy’s.

7:30: The food was good. Now I am just laying in bed.  I get some billing done, but then I start getting tired and doze off.

8:15: I am out of it, I just fall asleep in my bed while on the laptop.

11:59: Yep still sleeping, I am just exhausted.

Chemo Day #4: ~~~~ 8 More to Go

09/04/2012:

2:30: I give up on finishing up the phone firmware tonight.  I get the spare phone and a phone not being used yet and put them in place of the phones that are stuck trying to upgrade their firmware.

3:00: I get home.

3:15: I continue working on the phones. When I get home, I hate not finishing something once I have started.  I get the firmware’s loading and go to bed.

8:00: A client calls me about a duplicate ip address.  They attempt a repair and still get the same issue.  I remove all dhcp clients on the server and restart the dhcp server, I restart the router and the switch. That still does not resolve the issue.  Someone has that IP.  I just go ahead and reserve the mac address to have an ip that is not int he range, and that resolves the issue.  I doze back off to slee.

11:30: I get out of bed. I got Chemo @ 1.

12:00: I jump in the shower.

12:15: I jump out the shower.

12:30: I put on the lidocane  cream on the port and cover it with saran wrap so that it is numbed up by the time they stick me.

12:40: My dad and head out over to the Yenni Treatment Center.

12:50: We arrive at the Yenni Treatment Center.

12:53: I check in, and head on upstairs to the waiting room.

1:05: They come get us out the waiting room, 3 of us.  They call out our assignments and we go to our chairs/rooms.

1:10: The nurse takes my temperature and blood pressure.  98.6 and 125/83.

1:20: I plug in my laptop power cord behind the chair, power it on and get ready to broadcast another day at the treatment center.

1:40: The needle is in, let’s get this party started.  I have just a saline drip flowing at 20L/hr.

1:56: This day is caught up.  Just waiting for the anti nausea medicines.

2:30: I sign the consent forms.

2:40: The Zofran and another medicine is started to be dripped into me.

3:07: I get my first beeping on my pump, the Zofran is done.

3:25: They take my temperature and blood pressure again. 99.0 and 117/82.

3:27: The emen starts to get pumped into me!

4:05: They put in my Adriamycin.

4:25: My Adriaymcin is done.

4:40: They start my next drug bleomycin.

5:00: My bleomycin is done.

5:10: The nurse pushes the syringe of vinblastine into me.

5:13: The vinblastine is all in me.

5:15: They start pushing the dacarbazine.

I am just tired, hot, and out of it…  I am good though, just loopy!

6:15: They finish the dacarbazine, and I am done.  The nurse pushes some saline to clear the line an heparin to keep the line from clotting.

6:20: Time to pack up and head on out!

6:40: We get home.  My mom has picked up some Pizza’s from Whole Foods. As always food is good!

7:30: I am laying in bed, on my computer, tired, and I finally doze off to sleep.

11:30: I wake up, get up get some drink, and do a few things, then go lay back in bed.

11:59: Still laying in bed, but another day done…

1:15: I get home.

1:20: My wife gets home, I sit with her by the table while she eats her chicken wrap.

1:30: I am laying in bed.  I connect into the phone system, and start some more configurations.  I upload all the files needed for administering the Call Manager.  I then update the CUE for voicemails.  I then start to do the firmware upgrades, but there is an issue, I will have to go onsite to do this.

7:00: Time for me to go to bed!

1:00: I wake up, that was a good sleep.

1:15: I go outside to let Buster Out. and my dad is cooking steaks!

4:35: I jump out the shower and put together everything I need to go to work.

4:40: I head out.

5:00: I arrive on sit and go to work.  I try to update and can’t get the phone to update.  I try again and again.  I can’t get it.  Its the Chemo Brain.  If this was before the Chemo I would have no issues.  The Chemo does affect your memory and ability to recall things.  I try everything.  Connecting a computer as a tftp server.  I see the phones pulling the loads, but not doing anything with them, blah..I get to the point where I can’t get it.  I have remoted into my laptop at  house and the server just a few feet away because I am sitting by the front desk.

11:59: Another day is over, but the work is still going on, check tomorrow’s entry for the continuation.

Chemo Day #3 + 13

09/02/2012:

12:00:  Once the cables are done being terminated, I go to the phone patch panel and start working on the whip for the 4 phone lines, running them from the phone patch panel to the router where the are plugged into an FXO card.  This will transfer the analog signal from the phone company to the router.  The router will then transfer everything into VOIP inside the office.  I then put the router, powered switch, and network switch into the closet.  This is a temporary setup, as I have a new switch coming that will have enough ports to power all the phones and some ports left over that provide just network access.  I will also cut the cables to length once I have the wire management panels in to.  We then put the server back in.  I plug the powered network switch to the server and configure it to allow trunking on the uplink port and to tell the other ports to tell the phones to use 1 vlan for the phone network and the other vlan for the computer network.  I also tell the port that uplinks to the second switch to allow the computer vlan to that switch.  Once this is configured, all the phones come online.  I am able to make and receive phone calls with the setup like this.  However I am not able to place more than one call on the main line as I get a busy signal.  I will have them contact AT&T to fix this issue with them.  I notice the phones have the wrong time.  I set a few settings in the router and I still cannot get the phones to correct their time.  I do a quick look up on my cell phone and it seems that I have to upgrade the firmware for the phones.  Since the office does not have internet back up yet, I cannot do the upgrade at this time, so we call it a night, pack up, and get ready to head back home.

3:00: We are back in my van and headed home.  We take another route home.  Many red lights are on this way back home.  I almost miss one of the ones that are out because the intersection is so dark and didn’t even realize it was an intersection to I was right on top of the light.  Sure enough so did the person going the other way who blew right through the intersection.

3:20:  We get home we eat some Mac N Cheese that my mom had made earlier in the day.

4:00: I crawl into bed.

4:30: I doze off.

12:00: I wake up after a good nights rest.  My mom is frying pork chops.  I am up just in time for lunch and have a few.

12:30: I text the owner and tell them the phones were installed last night, he calls me back with a few questions, but is pleased that the new system is in place.

1:00: I am on my computer, the office I was at last night still doesn’t have any internet, so I can’t do my work remotely.

2:00: I get 2 phone calls from other people working at the office.  They can’t make any outgoing calls on the new phones, I tell them they need to dial 9, and that solves the issue.  The second phone call is how do they talk between phones.  I tell them they can dial the extension of the phone which is located in the top right hand corner of the phone they are trying to call.  That solves those issues.

3:00: Still no internet.  I get a call from another client about a windows genuine issue.  After a few changes and activating windows again, the computer is genuine again.  Some genuine machines have changes done to them that are flagged by Microsoft sometimes.

4:00: I am about to head over to my office.

4:10: I am in my van, time to go get gas first.  I go to Severn/Airline, but the person who put the price in the Gas Buddy app put in $3.68 instead of $3.86.  I correct this on the app and then look at the next cheapest place.  This surprises me, it is usually the most expensive gas station in the area at Causeway/West Esplanade.  $3.79.  I go fill up and get $72.00 worth.  BLAH Gas!  I then drive the half mile to my office.

4:30: I am at my office. I get on my computer and start putting things together for the phones.

4:45: My computer starts having issues.  I get a write delay failure.  Oh great, all I need is my computer crashing now.  I take the hard drive out and put it in another computer and do a chkdsk on it.  I leave this running while I go to do other things, as this will take a while.  It finds a number of errors and fixes them.

5:00: I take the misc box down which is our music box that plays the techno throughout the office 24-7. I am having issues with it again.  I attempt to do another OS install using the repair option one more time.  We’ll see how this works.

6:00: I then get a phone call from a client who is having issues with Outlook and Word.  I connect to his computer walk him through a system restore to the previous Monday.  Once the system restore is done I notice that he has 2 antiviruses on his computer.  I attempt to remove AVG Free 2012 Twice.  Then I use an AVG Removal tool to completely remove it.  After the third reboot it’s off of the computer.  He is then able to open Outlook and Word with no issue, problem resolved.

7:00: My computer is still scanning, and the other computer is still having issues installing, blah.  I pull out my laptop and start putting everything together again to go over and do a few more things for the phone system since they still don’t have internet.

8:10: Just as I am finishing up putting everything together to go work, I check to see if I can see the computers on one last time, and what do you know, they are online, so I won’t have to be driving over there anyway I can do this remotely.

8:15: I call the business owner and let them know their internet is back up.

8:20: I get a call from my mom letting me know that she is going to McCallister’s to pick up some food.  I tell her I am good, she insists, so I get the King Club with mashed potatoes and gravy.

9:00: My parents show up, they already ate before heading over.  My mom has been shopping for vacuum cleaner’s and wants to vacuum the office with the Oreck that I have in the office so she can get the feel of the weight and how it feels and how well it picks up.  She is impressed.  She has a Dyson at home, but it is too heavy and has too much going on, and she doesn’t really like it.  I eat and talk to my dad while my mom vacuums.

10:20: My parents head back home.

10:30: My computer’s hard drive is done scanning.  I review the errors, some index errors, mbr errors, and orphaned files.  It fixes these issues automatically with the scan.  I put it back in my computer and it boots up with no issues. I have a computer back, for now anyways.

11:00: The other computer is still giving me issues.  Oh well I guess I will just do a clean install.  I boot into windows one more time and backup the desktop and music shortcuts to a usb drive.  I then put the CD Rom in for Windows XP Home and let it reinstall.

11:59: I am still at the office, but another day is over, catch tomorrow for the continuation.
